Help with my water leak.........
« on: January 30, 2007 - 09:55:37 AM »
The 318 in my Challenger sat for a couple of years here in N. FL. Recently started OK after servicing, but I soon noticed water puddled under the trans/bell housing. I have not had time to start it again and look closer for the leak, but was hoping it was not the rear freeze plug. Any suggestions on how to closely check this leak and make the repair if it is that rear plug.

Pressurize it with a radiator pump. You have a 90% chance the rear freeze plugs are bad. :bricks1:

Sounds like the rear plug to me too....of course its the hardest one to change. It sounds like the plug is shot because you said there was a puddle, however it might just have a pinhole and if you really dont want to replace it then stop leak might do the trick.

:iagree: If it has corroded enough to cause a pinhole you can bet it's thin in other places besides the pinhole!

If it has rusty pin holes, you may need to yank all the freeze plugs and wash out the sludge build up.
