Anyone have a Dodge Magnum R/T???
« on: February 03, 2007 - 06:31:59 PM »
I just bought an 06 magnum SXT,the hood has the hood prop bar,you would think Mopar can quit being tight asses and atleast use 20 dollar hood struts :villagers:
I love everything about the car but that.My question is did the R/T get hood struts/shocks?or did they get a hood prop also?My base line 01 Intrepid SE atleast got them and not a prop.If they did can someone post a pic,I am going to install struts and get rid of the prop bar :swear:

thanks,I called 4 different parts houses,no listing. If they had them....must be a "dealer" item.I may have to dig around at Pep boys and make something work, shouldn't be too difficult.I remember doing the same to the lift gate on the early broncos i use to have.

That's not the worst example... I made a snide remark to the salesman who my aunt bought her Honda Accord from about how it had a hood prop bar. He told me that "it has the prop bar becuase that is the most relibale method out there. Shocks and springs, over time, lose tension and fail, but, since Honda is a forward-thinking, quality brand, they used a prop bar."

My response was that my dad has a 1972 Olds 442. It still has the same springs on the hood that it left the factory with... and they haven't failed.

His response was to turn to my aunt and respond to her question about engine break-in that "the Honda engine does not need a break in period".

Moparnut:
After reading your post, I looked at a couple of 05 and 06 Magnums on eBay, where I found the pictures below.  It looks like the R/T got hood struts, but the SXT did not.  You can see the difference in the pics below.  I have the 300C, and it uses the same struts as the R/T shown below.

Oh well, a minor inconvenience for a pretty great car, don't you think?

I will take the hood prop any day
at least when they get cold or old the hood will still stay up & not crash down on your noggin

Thanks for the pics,i guess the aftermarket hasnt listed them for the magnum yet.Must be dealer item only but i can adapt them with measurements from someone, maybe i'll go by a dealer and get the measurements/parts.Since i am selling my intrepid i tried to swap them but it wouldnt work.I think that shocks are close to the same but i need the correct mounting ball on the fender,my hood already has the ball.
Chryco,I have had more hood props fall on me from a wrench slipping and me knocking out the props, never had a hood shock fail,PLus it looks CHEAP and ALWAYS gets in my way.I guess they figure 80% of the people never open their own hoods, which is probably true.

Hey,arent we all here because we like modifying things?thanks tho.I was SO close to buy the R/T version but since this will be my work vehicle(I am a sales Rep)I figure with the 3-5 miles a gallon more this was a better choice even tho the 3.5HO has plenty of power with 3.90 gears and driving 30-40k a year, will save tons of money.PLus i have more money to buy a new Chally when they come out :jumping:
