    Rim Blow Steering Wheel

    I am considering acquiring a rim blow steering wheel.  I intend to put in my 73 challenger because I like the way it looks.  My question is, why is this wheel so expensive?  what should I look out for when buying?  Can they be restored?  As always any help is appreciated.

    they are rare & desirable so the price is high , they can be restored , the new switch alone is in the $150 range

    I can always count on you for a quick reply.  Are there any issues with these that I should know about?  The one that I am looking at has no cracks in the wood and the spokes look good.

    that is a good start , if the switch is still soft & works even better , the spokes are the hardest part to fix the rest is not bad but usually costly to fix unless you do it yourself

    Haha, if you did I was gonna tell you that it looked like a decent deal..lol. I'm not getting too excited, i'm pretty sure the car is sold, he was gonna sell it to me if it didn't meet reserve.   :drunk:

    Are these wheels ever counterfieted?  If so how do you distinguish them?

    The MOST important thing to look for when acquiring a Rimblow is the condition of the spokes. The original finish is Satin Chrome. Don't let anyone tell you anything different !! I have heard the spokes called Stainless Steel--NOT TRUE. They are plated with Copper then Nickel then Chrome and given a Satin finish. I have restored dozens of these wheels and have stripped the plating so I know what is under the final finish. Spoke condition first--everything else can be fixed/restored. Make sure you do your research on the style of Rimblow center cap before you buy. Plain cap--primarily Dart. Fish Cap---'Cuda. Recessed D O D G E insert---Challenger. I have access to ALL the parts required for a first class Rimblow restoration. What I can't buy--I make. You just have to be happy with the condition of the spokes.     Not that I'm aware of. Grant has started to reproduce a wheel that is close to the original, but the woodgrain is a tad different. It looks like a nice wheel. Check out item #246.

    Grant had that wheel on display at SEMA this last year, it is smaller in diameter than the rimblow. It is the size of the tuff wheel, and has real wood, not simulated wood grain.

    That grant is actually pretty nice looking.

    I'm wanting a rimblow, too, but that $700-$1300 price tag is daunting.

    I would buy the Grant if they offered it in the larger diameter or if they offered it in one of their simulated wood grains.

    Yeah. The smaller diameter is an issue for me as I don't have PS.
