Wheel Spacing Question

I recently changed my A Body rims to a 15x8 ralley wheel with BFG 275/60/15 tires. Unfortunatly i didnt know i needed an offset rim. The rims i just bought are non returnable. I have about a 1/8" clearance between the tire and leaf spring. My question is on using wheel spacers. I was going to use a 5/16" spacer to bring the tires out just enough so they wont hit the springs. The lug nuts will still tighten but the center opening in the rim will be off the axel. Is this ok, is this safe??? Any info or suggestions would be appreciated. THANKS!!!!

A good solution would be to move the springs in a bit to clear the tires. Using spacers leads to cracks in the wheelstuds and causes the studs to fail at the least opportune moment. (because wheels are designed to ride on the hubs and the Studs are there to just hold them on)
Moving the springs in also gives you more room in the wheelwell as the spring protrudes into the inside of the stock wheelwell when viewed from above.

Don't forget to lose the 7/16" wheelstuds and run some aftermarket studs 1/2" by 3" inch long instead.  Especially if you run the spacers because you need the studs to stick out of the lugnuts by at least 1/4" for safety.

thanks for the reply, i was hoping to find an easier solution than modifying the whole rear suspension by moving the springs. i am looking into wheel adapters instead of spacers at least those bolt on
