they are not getting any easier to find less than $500 is a decent deal especially if it has the crank $1000 or more is not out of line for a good short block with rods crank damper & flywheel , headsll are a bonus but 906 castings are still plentifu

I don't believe there is any such thing as a 440 six pack "bare" block.  440source.com has a good write up on blocks. The six pack was what was installed in and on the block. "HP" same thing. "HP2" same thing only built on second shift.  The article also dispells the myths on "thin wall blocks", saying the newer blocks were actually stronger carrying more iron. Read about it.

Yup, unless you have the VIN of a 6bbl car to match on the stamping, there is no such animal as a "six pack block". There is also no difference, with the exception of the matching VIN. "HP2" means the engine was assembled during 2nd shift.
