J62 on a 73 Cuda Painted Grille?
« on: February 17, 2007 - 06:02:34 AM »
Has anyone here seen the "J62" code on any 72-74 Cuda's??? A friend of mine has this on his Petty Blue 73 Cuda. It's on the B/C sheet, but not the tag. Of course Gaylen couldn't help and all the book says is "Grille Paint Treatment". The factory 73 brochure claims that you could get a color keyed grille in "six popular colors" and even shows a red one with painted grille.

Can anyone shed any light or add to our confusion???

Thanks!

Steve in chilly central NC.

Verry interesting!!!

I do see in the brochure that they mention the 6 different colors and I see the painted  grill on the Cuda.  You don't see many cars with the painted grill and if you do it's easy to assume that they were painted by the owner at some point in thier 30+ years old life.  Sounds like it's pretty rare and seems as though it's the whole grill.  Initially I was thinking that it was just the inside lip of the grill opening (usually red) but after looking at the brochure it looks like the whole grill is painted.

I wonder what the 6 colors were?  I wonder if there were a couple shades of grey/argent?  Could've been just variations of the argent paint.

In the 1974 brochure they only mention an argent grill, no color options so it may be a '73 only option?  I dunno...  :dunno:

I beleive that would qualify as  the red throats designated for the 'cuda model.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Ah ha!  That makes sense to me now!  Sometimes chrome, sometimes red.   Thanks Dan!

I think I'm seeing like the brown Barracuda in the last pic.

I have no idea, I'm a Challenger guy tryin' to learn Cuda stuff!  :faint:

I always thought the last year for that was '72.  (Just another thing Mopar deleted to make the E-bods easier to build)
