Trunk Extension Panel Differences
« on: February 15, 2007 - 10:19:22 PM »
I have found two different types of trunk extension panels. One is pretty cheesy with poor bends and no cut-out for the drain plugs (this is what I have now).

Then I came across some from Herbs Parts that do have the holes cut. Other than that I know nothing of this style does anyone have any experience with these? Looking at fit and over quality of the product.

Thanks
Lunch

Lunchbox - mine were the top picture type with the drain holes in them. My body guy didn't complain too much so they fit ok. They came through Sherman. They all need tweaking to get right fit.

Lunch, I was thinking about this the other day.  I noticed that on ebay there was a company selling ones with holes punched, and ones without.  The ones with the holes puched were more expensive, but I was wondering the same thing, if the quality or fit was different between the two...  :dunno:

I already have the ones without the holes punched and I thought they were pretty crappy. I wonder what kind Farmboy put on his Cuda?

I got mine from PA Colision. They sell aftermarket crash parts and resto parts. They had the holes and all in all not bad , just some rework on the triangle area at the wheel house. The edge that the lower valence mounts to was better than some I've seen but still not perfect. I would buy Goodmark if I were buying them now.

I got the one without the holes from Autobodyspecialties, and can only tell you from test fitting them in my 70 that there will be a decent amount of tweaking to fit these properly  :pullinghair:
I'd say go with the other.
It can't be any worse  :roflsmiley:
Just my  :2cents:
Good luck either way

I bought mine last year in Carlisle from ABS and can say they took a fair amount of :tweeking" to get a good fit, plus they didnt have the holes punched in them, so, using the originals, I overlayed them, traced the hole and using a dremel i was able to cut them out.  It took some time and patience to make the cuts and get a good fit, but overall I'm happy with them.

hi all, i went and looked at my extensions again, i am not new to body work and mopars, so that is why a posed my question, i truley dont see any indication my trunk extenstions have ever been tampered with, and there no hole, i have always thought they were suppose to have a hole, this is very wierd, the car was repainted at some time, if they did do this, they must have done  a very good job, factory welds, the car is going to be media blasted when i do the resto, but thats probably a year or so away, we will find everything then! , i am sure the car is worse than it looks, they all are!

Could you post some good up close pictures? That is a area that rusted bad and maybe it was just patched around the hole. I suppose it's possible that it is a factory defective part that was installed.

I needed to fix mine also.  I bought the replacements from Shermann's, but they are not that great so I just replaced what I had to.

There are some pictures on my website:
