Vinyl Top Question

Just received my top from Year One.  Information stated it had a 4 oz fuzzy backing to provide soft feel.   This top did not have a backing except the fabric.  I have an SE so I think there will be a problem going over the  rear window insert.  Have any of you  used an unpadded top on an SE or will it be ok to do this?

  Here's some shots of the original top from my R/T SE before it was removed. Not much but at least there was some fuzz under the vinyl. How does the Year One top compare?

From your pics it looks like there wasn't too much fuzzy on the back of the top.  I looked up the manufacturer of the top and they offer it in white with a padding but not black.  Year One advertises it has padding.  My top was in great shape  at the seam where yours is rusty but I did have some small holes at the trunk attachment area.  I am waiting on some feedback here and from other folks about the padding issue.  Still undecided as to if it needs padding or not.  the wide seam top is correct for the car. So

My top had padding in only the exact area of the plug. The top was original one from the factory, but just because my car was like that doesnt mean it is correct.

i am not sure what is exactly correct material should be however, i think your top should have a slightly fuzzy backing on it,many of the same type of materials are available without backing aswell, but in your case , having a window plug ,the fuzzy backed stuff is more forgiving of imperfections under the top, such as seams,debris, and other issues,a flat non backed material would show every little  problem, i have been in the auto upholstry business for about 22 years up until last week, most everything used these days have a backing i have used them both personally ,and its a bit easier to install the fuzzy backed material. good luck!

I dont know if it helps any but I just got a new white top from YearOne and it had no backing. I thought the factor did not use any padding on their tops? I have heard this from several people.
