production numbers
« on: December 12, 2006 - 07:22:31 PM »
Is there any way to find out production numbers of certain cars? My challenger is a R/T 440 4spd with air, dana 3.54, original color white. I know that there were 916 cars with 440 4speed options but how many had dana's, or air. How many white R/Ts were made?

Chrysler didn't keep records such as you are looking for.....engine/tranny numbers are about as close as you can get....color can be estimated by percentage (not extremely accurate either)....but everything is only a guess from that point on....

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I'll just add that you could research some of the mopar registries such as Challenger, mopar, chrysler etc... and come up with an educated guess or consult someone who offers to that service professionaly if you wanted some measure of "known to exist" documentation.  Although as cody & daytona already stated its still an estimation.

I think I answered one of my questions. The 916 cars that were R/T with 440 4speeds all had Dana's, from what I read all 440 and Hemi  4speed cars had dana's. Is that correct or is that fact misrepresented?

My challenger is a R/T 440 4spd with air, dana 3.54,

the Dana (3.54 or 4.10) was not available with air conditioning :clueless:

From what I understand the trac pac wasn't avaliable but the the dana is still used behind the 440 4speed. Other wise your saying no 440 cars ever had A/C. I know A/C was not availible for the 440 6pak or hemi 4speed. I had Datatags redo my tag, i sent my old one in (it was in rough shape)with a copy of the build sheet, when it came back I asked if the trac pak code should be on it and he told me no the trac pak was not available with a/c but the dana still was used and not noted on the tag. I figured he would know he does Galiens tags.

Shouldn't the Dana Axle Package code have been on the tag if ordered that way? I've always thought so :clueless:

There was a bunch of stuff that he didn't put on the tag. He told me that some of the stuff is on the broadcast sheet but not on the tag. Like the remote mirror codes, hood treatment, and several other options. I was told that on an early production car that these items were not on the tag just the broadcast sheet. The same as I was told about the axle, that it was listed separately not in the axle package because of the car having a/c. With all that said you never know. All I can prove is it is a 440-4speed car with a/c (js23uob******) the 4speed I know off the broad cast sheet the a/c I know off the
firewall (the cowl and radiator support match) unless at one time the firewall got changed but I would think you could see some repair marks or welds. I read in a couple of places (The challenger and cuda restoration books by Paul Herd for example) that the only cars that the hemis. 340-6pak and 440-6pak cars were the only cars that could not get a/c. If Im wrong on this I don't know. If anyone has proof other wise I would like to see it, because I have seen information both ways.

Hemi and six pack cars couldn't get a/c.  The compressor just wouldn't fit. As far as knowing if your tag is correct I would check with Barry (Alaskan_TA)
