Another one of those "work progress" threads
« on: March 28, 2007 - 09:36:04 PM »
Some of you may remember that I had a string of bad luck that caused me to take a little time off from my car. Between work, school, and life I didnt have much time to really work on her anyway, but recently that has changed. I was lucky enough to get a few weeks off from work and classes have been pretty easy, so I've had some spare time. Managed to build my long block, get the driver's floor pan in, install frame connectors, pull my 383, and start prepping the underbody. I already know that threads are useless without pics, so I made sure to attach a few. First two pics are of the driver's floor. The 3rd pic shows the surprise I found when I pulled the engine (Pretty sure I broke the mount on the last drive before I tore the car apart :burnout:). The fourth picture is my new engine (intake is just laying on it because I havn't ported it yet). The 5th and 6th pics are of the Magnum Force frame connectors that were a pain in the ass to install. They look like they were bolt-ins, but they weren't :swear: With any luck I will have the underbody completely finished by next week and hopefully have the 451 completely finished. Im really trying to get the body in primer, the new engine installed, and the car driving by May 3rd (my 21st B-day). Figured that since I have finals that week and cant go out to celebrate my 21st :drunk:, that I might as well be driving in style :ylsuper:

The connectors are from Magnum Force racing. They cost $249 and I dont feel they were really worth it. They fit nicely and I 'guess' I'm satisfied with them, but I wouldn't recommend them. Ohh and I just realized that the orange and black underbody might look weird to some of you, it looks like that because I had to do the area above the connectors before I installed them. The topside of the connectors were done as well. The whole underbody will be covered with eastwood's rust encapasulator and then covered with black undercoating.

I ordered some of the xv motorsport ones, for 179 they are hard to beat!  However yours would easily be removed.

Well I was trying to have the underbody and the 451 completely finished by today and probably would have if I didnt get sidetracked with the old 383. I figured that since it was already on the stand, that I might as well tare it apart, inspect it, paint it, and make a nice trophy out of it. The bores were all in great condition except for cylinder 5, which had a groove in it....could easily be bored out but wonder how it even got there. Was going to take the piston out to further investigate but figured I better not waste more time. I slapped it together but left everything untorqued and will get back to it at a later time. Anyhow, I did manage to get the 451 pretty much done and started fitting the accessories ;D and got as far as I can go till my alternator comes in. I ran into one small problem, my dual line for the carb is 3/4" away from the distibutor because I had to use the adapters for the Demon. I'm going to try cutting and flaring it an inch lower for clearance, hopefully I can get it to work because I dont care much for the flex hose :-\ Also got the underbody pretty much complete after scraping at it for hours....will probably have it finished tommorow. Im pretty much on schedule right now, but probably wont be for long because I have to go back to work :'( O well, it was good while it lasted. I think I can still scrape some time together and hopefully get something done by next week. 8)

Kind of wish I would have went with the XV/uscartool connectors. I welded in my connectors, so they wont be that easy to remove :-\
