Rear Sway Bar Addition
« on: February 27, 2007 - 12:14:54 PM »
I would like to add a rear sway bar to my 71 Challenger. I have noticed while searching the internet that most places that sell the sway bars do not sell the brackets. Does anyone know where I can get a set? Or know where I can buy a sway bar setup that includes the brackets? I need both the backets that tie it to the frame and the bracket for the leaf springs. Thanks for the help. This board is the best support I have found for e-bodies by far.

Firm Feel will have one of the closest to original, frame hung styles, with all the related hardware to complete the installation.

You might also try a company called 'JUST SUSPENSION'. I've never used their products, but I understand they are pretty good. Maybe someone else on the site here has used their products. Their web site is www.justsuspension.com or you can phone them at 800-872-1548. Mopars is one of their specialties & their swaybar kits are all inclusive with all the necessary components. Good luck!!

Thanks for the info guys. Does anyone have a recommendation on sway bar sizes? My Challenger was orignally a 340, but now has a 440. I would like to have good all around handling. Thanks again.

The rear sway bar must always be slightly smaller diameter then the front bar so it depends what you have installed at the front

It looks like both places offer a 3/4" rear bar and Just Suspension also offers a 1" one. I will have to check on mine, but I was thinking of upgrading/replacing the front as well. Any suggestions as to a size combination?

Depends what is available , I have the factory rear bar on my car & it makes a big difference , I would take a smalller bar that mounts to the frame over a larger bar that hangs on the diff though

I have just suspensions front and rear bars on my 70 with 1 1/8' up front and 1 inch in back, they are made by Hellwig. really helped cut the lean on my 440 6 pack car. but if I were you I would add subframe connectors first as they will make the biggest difference.

I did not mention that, but the subframe connectors are going on first, then the addition of the rear sway bar and upgrade to the front.

pandamarie, did you use weld-in or bolt on subframes connectors? Where did you get yours? I was looking at several sets of weld-in ones. One set that welds to the floor pan all the way back from US Tool and the more common box tubing style with the flanges that weld on front and rear from sevearl places.

Thanks for all the input everyone.

I used the bolt in type , but going to take them off and go with the ones from us car tool, they look like they will make the car as stiff as possible and hard to beat thier price.
