Floor to qtr extension
« on: March 14, 2007 - 06:24:03 AM »
:clueless: i'm wondering what to do when replacing my quarter extension,i purchased one through sherman industries and it has the drain plug hole in it.do you weld it closed or keep it open for the factory look.the main reason the lower qtr rust out on these cars are because of this drain hole IMO.I'M THINKING ABOUT CLOSING IT OF SO THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN.YOUR THOUGHTS?

I don't think the reason they rust out is because of the drain hole, it's because no one opens the drain hole and cleans out the mud that has accumulated in the bottom of the quarter, which holds the water, which rots the quarter.

I would leave the hole there.

You guys know that there is suppose to be a plastic drain plug that goes in the hole with only about a pencil sized opening pointing down. The idea being little to nothing gets in from the outside but any water that finds it's way to the quarter has a way out. I have not seen a replacment for these yet but I think most any old Mopar came with the same setup.

Yeah..they let water out if not plugged by sand and debris from the trunk. The areas get primer/sealer on them because the unibody is dipped..not sprayed. But if there are any pin holes, or it's really damp weather, the water will end up at that plug hole...
