XV Motorsports Lower Radiator Yoke Support Question
« on: March 09, 2007 - 07:29:23 PM »
Hi, I am thinking about installing the frame rail support that goes
under the radiator that XV sells. I was wondering if anyone has installed
it in their E-body and if there were any interference issues with mounting the
valance or the radiator or if any additional modifications are needed to accomodate
it? Any Pics? Thanks!  Jeff

Jeff,

I mounted mine behind the original radiator support and welded it to both the front frame rails and the original radiator support.  You shouldn't have any issues with the valance.  I am going to have and drill and tap two holes for the bracket that holds the hood latch and connects the top and bottom of the radiator supports (you can't fit the stock J-nuts in there anymore).  I'm not sure if the stock radiator will work or not (I'm planning on running an aluminum radiator).   If my radiator wasn't buried in the back of my storage shed, I'd try and see if it would fit.  Perhaps with these pictures, you can go look at your car and see if your radiator would interfere with the brace?  My radiator has been out of the car so long I don't even remember what the bottom looked like when it was mounted. :-\

Anyway, this is what Peter at XV Motorsports sent me on the radiator support:

"It will mount one of three ways.

1. Side tank radiator, should fit fine IN PLACE of the original rad support.
2. Mounted BEHIND the original, between the K frame and the orig support with extra tubing we can send to extend it.
3. Again, using extensions to make it longer, in place of the orig rad support to clear the lower tank of a factory style radiator. "

Those directions didn't really make much sense to me....  :clueless:   However, I think mine is mounted the same way as the picture on XV Motorsports webpage shows.   :dunno:

Anyway, here's the pictures... the brace did fit perfect right where it went....

My car is being painted now...I really wish I got a jump on this piece, looks like it would make the front end a LOT more sturdy.

Nice...I am waiting for mine to arrive, thanks for the pics. I hope to be able to install mine in the same place as yours, not sure tho, I am running the Be Cool rad for the E body and cause of the blower belt I had to cut away all my rad support to fit the rad in.    :2thumbs:

Hi Travis72,
Thank you very much for the excellent pictures! What you have there makes
me feel pretty good about the fitment. Very steathy the way you have it tucked
in there! I would like to do the same. Thanks again!    Jeff

Looking quick, there's no way that a factory style radiator will fit properly. It will be too high for standard mounting holes. It may not bad that bad, but be prepared. I'm sure it makes difference tho.

Hi Moper, You are correct. I pulled my OEM radiator out of storage to test fit. The factory radiator and the brace would want to occupy the same space the way
Travis installed his. I didn't realize until I put the radiator back in there that the
lower tank nested that far down into the factory brace. Thank you for the post!
I guess it would have to be extended down thru the factory brace and go under it
to fit a OEM style radiator. Now I kind of understand those directions they gave

Well, you can simply use an aftermarket aluminum radiator with the side tanks like I think was mentionned. Then it's fine. Paint it black, and few would know what they are looking at really.
