How will Vista affect it here

Being in IT, when a Service Pack is being bandied about before the OS is released is akin to GM issuing a recall/repair on the new Camaro before it even hits dealer showrooms.

Yep-you hit that one on the head.  So far as I can see, vista won't bring much in the way of new features that average users will consider gotta-haves.  However, it will make most computers instantly obsolete, especially if you want to run all the pretty eye candy you pay so dearly for in the most expensive versions of vista.  You have to have a fairly powerful graphics card JUST TO RUN THE VISUAL EFFECTS IN THE OS.  Want decent performance?  Better plan on at least 2 gigs of ram, more if you want to do anything very intensive.  And, for what?  To make Bill his next billion?  No, I don't think so.  They're gonna have to do better than that before I cough up much money for it. 

Oh, it gets even better.  You computer guys know how previously, you could do a fresh install from an upgrade disk as long as you could come up with a valid cd of a previous operating system.  Not anymore.

  Now, to use an upgrade vista disk, YOU MUST FIRST INSTALL XP.  That's right-you can't just put the xp cd in there to verify you have it.  Then, after the xp install, you do an upgrade install of vista.  Thanks, microsoft.  'Preciate that.  Hey, can you use a little vaseline next time?

I wonder if having hyper-threading counts as 2 procs...I'd think it would cause if you ask my computer it says it has 2   I'm going to wait until at least service pack 2 comes out, or I build my new super computer!

I had to buy a new computer a few weeks ago and it had Vista on it.  I don't see much difference except it uses a lot more memory.  Also, my wife can't access her work files from our home computer because the school files aren't compatible with Vista.

I bought a new laptop and desktop for the office today, both with XP.  There is no way I'm going with Vista yet.  The store, who builds the desktops, won't even install Vista unless requested to do so by the customer.  I told the guy that I am surprised that Microsoft allows this.  He said that they are a corporate client so they can but other MS dealers can't do this.  They had a desktop set-up in the showroom for demo'ing Vista and it would crash during demos! My wife just won a new Dell that came with Vista and it was crashing out of the box.  The only thing that was load was MS Outlook! The thing is sloooow as well.  Only a company with a virtual monopoly would get away with this.
