Budget Dana60 build up..
« on: March 14, 2007 - 01:44:24 PM »
Guys..

I want a Dana 60 set up for the Challenger project.

I am not wanting a Dana60 vs 8.75" debate. Instead I need to know if I can buy a bare Strange 60 E body spec housing and use a 30 spline trac-loc w/ 4.10 ring gear and pinion set up from a junkyard full floating dana 60 from a dodge work van along with my stock 8 3/4 30 spline axles, bearings and brake/backing plate set up for a budget dana 60 build.

I know the 30 spline axles and trac loc will be a week link but as funds become more available I can upgrade.

I have just dumped probably $7K in a 440 roller cam/alum headed 440 and the wife won't like me dumping $2100 on a complete rear end assy. (I also have to buy the CRT 727 and T/C that she already agreed to:)
Thanks in advance. I appreciate you taking the time to reply. :icon16:

Dana Axles are different length to the 8 3/4 axle so no they axles will not swap , possibly 1 axle will work so you would just need to buy 1 axle , contact strange to be sure

What you may want to do is simply buy anr run a B body Dana. They are a little narrower than an E body, and that will effect the backspacing of the rear wheels themselves. But the axles are cheaper to find complete but usable. Starting with a brand new empty case, there is on such thing as a "cheap" E body Dana 60..

Why don't you just use the van dana 60 and weld on perches?

the Van diff will be too short on the right side , the truck ones will work though
