Royal Purple

I only have 350 miles on my motor...when would be a good time to switch over to Royal Purple synthetic....I hear that sruff is great...

about 3500-4000+ miles , get the rings seated first

Most manufacturers say to wait until at least 3000 miles.

I'm unsure of the exact mileage of mine since rebuild, what are the possible harms of switching to a royal purple now?  Also I know there was a thread previously on motor oil, if not the royal purple would a 10-40 be best?

by switchin gto synthetic too early the rings may never seal meaning excessive blow by & lost power for the life of the engine
 the best is any good quality oil Castrol GTX , Shell Rotella T , Valvoline etc & either GM EOS or Crane or Comp cams additive to add more Zinc & phophorus to the oil which any newer SL SM or CI oil has removed

Personally I'm a fan of amsoil, stuff is a little pricey but seriously good stuff.

Amsoil, Royal Purple, Redline. I put them all in the same catagory. They have the zinc phosphorous, and they are synthetic. Also, a tad pricey.

Some concerns with Royal Purple < I guess they use Moly for lube which can harden & score

Redline also has a high content of Moly, but that is what I use and have not had any problems.

I talked to the tech people at Royal Purple a few months back before I decided to use it. I was told until a viable alternative was found for the Zinc and phospherous, their oil would continue to be SL rated.
