Volt meter gage died

Can I tie the two wires together and run a autometer gage?

You can do this if we are talking about an amp meter here. Tie the 2 wires together, then the voltage meter would measure between this junction and ground.

Yes you can, however did you have an overcharging issue or anything at the time of death?
