Auto glass, Talk about lucky...Yeah buddy
« on: April 04, 2007 - 12:10:20 PM »
I stopped in at a glass place 2 miles from my house to get prices on the barracuda windshield and a glass for my wifes 97 S10.

196.15 installed at my home for the barracuda front glass and to install the rear glass, then 136.00 for the S10. They will be here at 8am. PPG glass.

Is that a good price? Or about normal? And delivered to my shop, I thought that was good

I paid about $140 for my windshield, just the glass so having it installed at that price is a deal.
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

Yep, that sound right to me. I think all glass places want to come to you now. Even if it's at a parking lot where you work.

Sounds like a good deal to me.  A lot of glass company's won't mess that big back glass for the fastback's.  They say it is too curved to handle the stress well and they don't want to be responsible for breaking it.  You did ok.....     :2thumbs:

Well, the glass man just left. Here's what I got

New front barracuda windshield  with installation, cost 150 bucks
New front chevy S10 windshield with installation, cost 128.86 bucks
Install back glass on barracuda  cost 60 bucks

taxes on everything  12.71
fuel surcharge  2.50

Total for delivery and install everything    354.07

I thought it was a fantastic deal!!!!

I will post an updated progress picutre of my M46 barracuda in a while today

The car is lacking only a few items before it's driveable now, which is great since I got it delivered to me from california as a hull and no paint in october, missing many items and having to buy used, nos, or reconditioned parts. This was not a rotisery restro by no means, just a daily driver that was for the most part rust free.

Here's a small summary on the costs for this build

Purchase car and deliver 2600 mile                                             14,000
Rims and tires complete                                                              1,000
interior so far                                                                            1,000
one coat of paint for pre assembly and finish painting                       2,000
buy a 4 speed, bb,flywheel, cl,pp, bearing and pistol grip                  1,000
Windows                                                                                  210.00
Engine 440-6 and rebuild carbs, eagle rods, new parts in heads             1,300
Brake rebuilding                                                                           50
Exhaust manifolds and system                                                        700
wood steering wheel    CLOWN                                                       free
used dash pad                                                                            300
lower grill                                                                                   150
frnt valance                                                                               135
rear valance                                                                               140
steel 6pk air cleaner kit                                                                325

Like I said, I still need little items and bumpers. But it sure helps to start off with a straight clean rust free shell

And do 90% of the work myself.  So far starting from nothing to owning this barracuda and painted I got 20k in an everyday driver. This total may help some of you guys see what it takes to just build, own and drive an everyday classic 70's e body.

So you can imagine the cost of a rotissery built or show car. Yes these cars cost quite a bit, but the pure joy of it all is well worth it.

I couldn't decide on an AAR hood or shaker, so I am getting them both.  That seems to be the biggest costs for my project.  With 323 gears in it right now, I should be able to cruise to alot of places out of state and to some of the events :2thumbs:  I am building a 410 dana for it now, so it will limit my travel down a bunch after I get it done

Here's a current pic of the car today.  I still love the price of 150 plus tax for a new front glass. :2thumbs:  Also my legendary interior. My camera lense has some spots on it. The seats are great.

Man that sounds like a hell of a deal!  The car looks like it's coming along great.  Have you been out for a spin yet?

They dont seem to charge much for the actual install.  I think I got my last ws for a runner for 105.  60 on the rear install isnt bad either, although I do my own, however its rare I even mess with installing windshields if I buy from a glass place.  I paid 105 installed for my daytona turbo z glass/install.

Yeah, the 2 quotes I got from them for carry out on the front glass was 75 and 90 plus tax. But I never installed one. I think I could now if I had everything as clean as this car. i watched and took mental notes althe way through

Once I got it all together, I will drive it. I have to pull the dash and column back out to paint and clean it, then put the pad on, then get the chrome tips and align the front end. I know I'm close on the front end, but I want to put it on a machine :2thumbs:

Cars looking good, thats the one that was painted partially when you got it or years ago?  I remember reading about it a while back.  Im not even looking at those pricing numbers... Im scared lol!  Glass isnt that hard to install really, do it a few times and its like clock work.
