Odd steering feel - what would cause this?
« on: January 28, 2008 - 11:58:08 AM »
Hey all,

During my drive this weekend I was reminded of my 'Cuda's odd steering tendency to steer easier to the left then to the right.  In fact I wouldn't say "easier," but a flick of the wheel towards the left will suddenly veer the car left, whereas the steering seems more solid and gradual to the right.

The tie rod ends are all new, ball joints are tight, idler and pitman arm could probably use some help...  But I was wondering if this is something internal with the gear box that'll need replaced.

For what it's worth - turn signals are the same - it's very easy to click the signal to the left and then turn it off manually (for example lane-changes) but to the right, I can click it right easily, but almost have to smack the lever down to get it to turn off.  I know of course that this is unrelated, but it's kind of ironic.   :)

Well, mine is to the opposite direction, but the idea of the steering hose return might have something to do with it, especially because I know the engine has been out at least once before.  How does that hose dictate this though, out of curiosity...?

73B - I believe the part everyone is mentioning to adjust is the entire block on top of the steering box. It contains the pump return nozzle and has two???? bolts that you loosen to snug and simply tap the block up or down the steering box. Adjust in tiny increments though as it makes a big difference. We did my son's Charger after dismantling the steering box and replacing the seals. Cannot remember which way is to the left though.
