Glass cleaning help
« on: April 08, 2007 - 10:18:48 AM »
What is the best way to remove the years of crude that has built up on me window glass. I've tried windex, soap and water but still have layers of dirt I can't get off.

I have heard that you can get that somewhat cleaner by using a very mild abrasive such as toothpaste and a very soft cloth.  Apply and rub out with the cloth then use damp rag to clean the toothpaste off and then use windex or similar cleaner to complete the job. I havn't used this method, but I heard it works fairly well.    Good luck.....    :cooldancing:

I have had luck using "Bar Keepers Friend" or "Bon Ami".  You can find them at Wal-Mart or your local grocery store where the sell kitchen cleaning supplies. These are non abrasive cleaner, kind of like Ajax but without the abrasiveness. Wet the glass and sprinkle a small amount of cleaner on it and use some 00 steel wool.  Apply a little pressure and rub in a circular motion.  Rinse with clean water, and it should look like new.

Good ole fashioned razor scraper would do a world of good fast. Presoak with vinegar.

This works.  I removed overspray from my glass using a flat razor.

I use very fine steel wool. It doesnt scratch the glass and comes out very clean and smooth. Make sure you use the extra fine. If you try it , you wont look back. Works good on the chrome too. Doesnt matter if its overspray or window tar :2thumbs:  Not brillow pads but steel wools (extra fine)

Geesh, proof reading this sounded like a commercial :roflsmiley:

Lacquer thinner?  I use that everything except plastic...takes anything off.  Just wear gloves, stuff dries out your skin and when it gets in cracks, watch out
