dana rear end
« on: March 11, 2007 - 11:59:12 AM »
hello
i got home a dana rear end from a van.it should be a dana 60 with 4.10. it have 30 splines axles that fits right into a 8 3/4 center section.
i have not found any dana 60 with 30 splines axles.
could it be a dana 70 or?
how could i identify if it is a dana 60 or 70.
i think the housing/center section is bigger on this than a dana 60,but i could take wrong because it is a long thime since i had a dana 60 on my other challenger.so if it is someone who could help me identifying this it would be great
thanks runar

mosrt Danas have 35 spline axles , the center carrier should have 60 or 70 cast onto the web of the center carrier
yoyu may possible actually have a 9 1/4" diff whick can be mistaken for a dana . danas with 5 bolt wheels are very rare while most 9 1/4" diff have 5 bolt

Mr Mopar - I got a Dana 60 from a Ford pickup with a 3.73 ratio. Suregrip clutch style, narrowed it and put new spring perches on all for about $350CDN. All I need now is axles which will be custom Moser or Strange. So for about $700 US you could be looking at the same. Go for the 66-70 Ford 3/4 pickup as they have the PowrLok units, mine is a TracLoc from a 73. The early units are a bit stronger. Also mine came from a straight 6-300 truck and the gears are just like the day it left the factory. I hope to be ramming something like 600 Flywheel hp though this with the 833OD gearbag. CP - we still on for the mid May startup?? :woohoo:

hello
i have found out that it is a dana 60-hd.it have some extra strenght material on it and have larger axle tubes 3 1/4".
i'm going to use it and put 3" axle tubes on it and cut away the extra material.it is heavy enough as is.i'll post some photo when it is ready to bolt on.

since ive been in the hobby i have come to realize unless you have the tools to do all the modifications yourself, it is better just to buy a brand new rearend from moser or something like that. By the time you buy the rear end, have the tubes cut, the axles cut and everything else you could have just bought a brand new one with out any of the headache.

Yes My Dana I built came out of a 84 Ford truck and I cut the axle ends off and put my 8 3/4 ends on and my stock axles are in there and work fine it is about a 1" narrower because of axles but It worked great. then welded new pearches on and its in my car and looks factory. heres pic before it went in and one under car.
