It was on the spinning stage at the NY Auto Show they didn't even have a challenger. Here are pics I took of it and the new dakota.

They say they do not have enough room to make more than 4000 Challengers, but they want to produce this also.  :pullinghair: :banghead:

I'd sooner cut the Charger to make production room for the Challenger, than only make 4000 units, the new Challenger is splitting image of its predecessor, not the 4-door wannabe charger.  The new Charger is a cool looking car...but its no Charger...

I wish Chrysler would stop trying to have a perfromance version of every model and dedicate more time/money to produce the Challenger.

What, so they can have thousands of them sitting in their storage lots without buyers, like they did with their regular models this year? Everyone seems to drastically overestimate the sales of this new Challenger. The two door sports car market is extremely limited. Two door four seaters are impractical for families, and people who want to be able to schlep stuff around. Thats why, even in the 60s-70s, the heart of the muscle car era, most of the production was devoted to four door cars and station wagons, not so much muscle cars. Let them start small, and increase production to meet demand. Don't satiate the market, and keep supply low to drive demand up. Make the Challenger into a halo car, one that will drive people into dealerships, where they will leave with Avengers, Chargers, 300s and SUVs.

That said, I am just as eager to see the Challenger hit the market as the next guy... :2thumbs:

All that will happen if they keep the production low is the price will go up. Then you and I cannot afford to have one. If this happens you can bet you're *ss there WILL be a Mustang in my garage. And I won't feel one bad thought about it either. I'm one that is looking forward to an affordable Challenger. If this is Chryslers outlook on it then I'll be the first in line at the Ford dealer.

You hit the nail on the head.  If everyone who said they'd buy one actually did, there would be no question.  The one group this DOES help is the dealers who will charge premiums over sticker to those who just have to have it first.

I really don't want to start an argument here but for all those who think Mopar cannot sell two doors just look up how many Mustangs have been sold. I believe something like 180K in 05 and around the same in 06. The numbers in 07 are still out yet. If no one wants a two door then I wonder where all the Mustangs are? If Dodge wants to go down this road then I have NO problem giving Ford my money. Just a thought, anyone got the steller sales figures on the 4 door they call a Charger. I guess that is a success Huh!  :2cents:

Not to start an argument either, but I would rather see them produce low numbers in the first year - demand exceeds supply, price falls, production rises in order to bring supply and demand to an equilibrium - than a surplus of cars sitting on the back lot as an unanticipated inventory investment for a company that is already hemhorraging money.

That aside, if all those people just bought (350,000) just bought Mustangs in the past two years (a) they are not looking for a car to replace that Mustang yet, and (b) the Challenger will only be able to claim a small percentage of those sales, and that will be based on the looks of the car alone. The Mustang has been around constantly, in one iteneration or another, since the 1964 1/2 model year. It has a constant history and legacy. The Challenger has a history, but it has not been ingrained in the public conciousness like the Mustang, or even the Camaro. Just remember back to that other thread... how many people call Challengers and Cudas Chargers, or even worse, Mustangs or Camaros?

The bread and butter of a car company is their 4 doors. If Chrysler wants the Challenger to be a competitor to the Mustang, they first need to feel out the market. Then, if it is succesful, they increase production and lower price. Ford did the same with the Mustang. They produced few in the first model year, and when it became a runaway hit, they boosted production bigtime. Besides, they need to take into account what they will do at the change of the model year. They might decide to can the Chally after 5 years, if only because the same purists who are pissed at them now for following basic market economics dictates will absolutely savage them for bastardizing the appearance of such a historic automobile... much like they did with the Charger.
