What's This? (Capped Filler Tube?)
« on: April 23, 2007 - 09:24:34 AM »

http://www.cudaworld.com/adDetail.asp?cat_id=9&sub_id=0&ad_id=1412

I can't recall ever seeing something like this? What is it and why does it stop all the way up there for? :clueless:
I thought all 'Cudas fuel tubes were behind the number/license plate?

Emissions thing.  Car is most likely built for california.
I had a 70 Challenger that had the same thing.  Supposedly, they were only for the cars that were to remain in California.

Someone else will have to answer why it goes all the way up there.

NZ,that snorkle you posted is from CAL smog emision cars, inside the tank there is a small inner tank that Id say holds about two litres in volume, from either corner of the tank inside are small breather pipes that go to the small tank then up to that snorkle and some where in up there a fifth pipe comes out to the front rite hand guard with a flexible line to the breather cap on the rite hand valve cover, that is why some breather caps have three pipes and some only have two, hope this helps.

It also allows for the gas to expand (cold gas Hot day) into the tubes rather than run down the outside of the car from the filler tube.

My '71 has the kommiefornia emissions and ECS too; it also has that tube in the trunk.

Do any of the aftermarket fuel tanks actually include that inner expansion tank?  I know they make ECS versions with the vent tubes, but I've not heard if they have the internal tank.

my 71 barracuda has it as does my 72 cuda, as did a 73 barracuda I parted out.  Couldn't tell you if they are california emissions specs.  My 71 was bought new in maryland so I wouldn't think so.  Not sure where the other two were bought.
