Timing questions???

hey guys i have a 68 440 stock heads mild port and polish, valve work, 486/504 cam, high compression pistons,bored 30 over with electronic igntion(dont know if that matter?) I just got the car started up the other night and was wondering wher ethe timing needs to be ??? this si the first car i have fooled with so this is all new to me ?? any suggestions??

Since you can at least start the engine, you should be close.  :grinyes: I'd start with around 12-14* BTDC and see how happy it sounds from there. Just remember, if you advance too much you get ping.  :stomp:  Are you using a vacuum advance, or not? That comes into play here too, as you will need to retard the initial advance some if you are useing a vacuum advance.

I agree , start with initial timing in the 14-16* range & total timing around 36* , you will need to disconnect the vacuum advance to do this usually [leave it disconnected]
