528 hemi
« on: May 29, 2007 - 03:57:49 PM »
my new 528 hemi engine from moparperformance got bad.
i bought a new 528 hemi from manciniracing.i was going to do the 20 min start up when i noticed some more and more tikking from the valves so i stopped after 5 min.i take off the valve covers and found one pushrod on #2 exhaust was jumped off.adjuster nut was loos and adjuster screw was out.i found 3 more nuts that where loos.i adjusted the valves and finished the 20 min start upp.then i changed oil and filter, adjusted the valves again and tryed to drive it,but have to drive back to my garrage because of some bad valve sound and som bad back flash in the carburator.i took of valve covers again and found the pushrod on #2 intake bendth and the lobe on camshaft #2 exhaust was gone.
is it anyone who have been on to this before.anyone who know if it is some warrany on this engines.mancini racing does not respond on my mail.so i dont know.anyone?
if it is someone who have a hydralick roller camshaft with maximum 0.540 lift i'm wery interested baying it including lifters and chrome moley pushrods.new or used.or is it anyone who know a shop who have this in stock.i have tryed summit and jegs but they dont have it in stock, have to wait a month.

I can't help you, but I have heard of many stories about Mopar crate engines having to be gone over before they were even fired for the first time.  :dupe:

Man thats got to suk outloud!! If you paid on a credit card you may have a better chance at resolution. Contact your credit card company! Hope this helps. My crate was in the cAr when I bought it. All I hear is bad news on crates. Through a little research I found out it's an '01 motor. No clue on what its been through before I got it. It was assembled by Cummins according to the block sticker/dont know if they still are. Dont know if thats good or bad. Runs strong but does go though oil. Givin' 'er all he!! don't help. Best of luck.

Mancini were OK to me, not the best but it worked out. I got a faulty diff center section and I had to ship it back (on me) before I got a refund. The refund took some time, emails and a phone call. I don't shop at Mancini any more.I too have heard horror stories about "over the counter" crate engines. Not all are bad from what I've heard and the last thing we need is a big rumor about all the engines being "crap". They need to be stripped down, blue printed, checked, double checked then put back together again by someone reputable. This was one of the reasons I chose to get my engine professionally built by someone reputable (perhaps the best). More expensive? You bet. Any headaches or ongoing worries and lack of performance? Not a chance. :grinno:

Best of luck with your engine.

I've found Mancini Rcing to be fantastic at customer service, however I use them for parts sourcing. I've never bought an assembly from them. To be honest, in this case, I wouldnt expect them to warrantee the engine, as they only transferred the crate (part number) to you. But I agree not being contacted is bad regardless of the reason. Have you tried calling them direct? I call and have never had a problem. Buying a crate engine is just like getting a bum hand in poker sometimes. But you can't get mad at the dealer for MPs quality control issues. I would not expect much good from that engine, and I'd expect less help from MP on it. And you really should try calling Mancini directly, and trying to get the number of thier MP sales rep. And call with the problem, not a huge confrontational attitude. "you get more flys with honey..". Sorry for your situation. I hope it works out.

If I spent that kind of coin on a crate motor I would be highly pissed if ANYTHING was wrong with it at all. If you look around the industry, mopar guys pay more than almost anyone for comparable power rating crate engines. I know paying more for mopar stuff is part of the game but I will not stand by and pay more for junk or substandard quality.

Be careful about that hydraulic roller on the Hemi.

Hi Rob, I finally got a chance to look at the block clearance job that was done to install the hemi hydraulic roller cam. This modification is to be strictly avoided! The reason the pushrod holes are in the block with the extra material, is to support the upper cylinder wall which gets distorted when the inner head studs are torqued. We have used deck plates on hemis that have had the block pushrod bosses removed, and the cylinders are always distorted. Race engines require round bores at WOT, and this is not the way to get ring seal. I just thought you might want to pass this along. The best way to ruin a race hemi block is with that mod.
