Holeshot RC Drag Racing.
« on: May 18, 2007 - 09:04:27 AM »
I'm starting to get back into RC nitro cars. (I know, I should be working on the Challenger!)

It was a good deal I couldn't pass up.  I just picked up one of craigslist for $40, a used one, .12 engine, 2 speed tranny, was a 4wd road car that was converted to RWD, with radio unit, extra set of tires and rims, and a Canada Dry bottle full of 20% nitro-methane.  I have an old Kyosho Assault from the 80's that has become sort of collector status so I don't use it for fear of damaging it.  (I saw one on Ebay before for over $700 for the car alone, no radio or anything.)

Here's a cool video of nitro cars drag racing.  At 16 seconds into the clip you can see one doing a wheelie off the line!

If you look closely there's a '70 'Cuda in Plum Crazy with a blower!

No idea but it is lotsa fun once they get going and are tuned right.  Figure they are 1/10 scale for the most part, except for the F1 looking car which might be bigger, like 1/8 or 1/5 scale.  So what is a 1/4 mile?  1320ft, so they have to do it in 132 ft?  I wonder if the drag racing track in the video was 132 feet?  :clueless:

Problem with even the 1/10 scale cars is that you need lots of room to get them to full speed.

Who needs wheelie bars?
Right now I need to buy new clutch shoes for the savage, it wore down a set of 7075 alum. clutch shoes.
And i switched form 20% nitro to 30% nitro.
You can get 1 gallon of free fuel here and just pay for shipping. I made a freewebs site and they gave me a gallon.

I'll keep that site in mind but I have enough fuel for now since I haven't used the car much.  :)

That truck goes great in the snow!

I have a Savage.  NIce truck looking to put the Jeep body on it.  No real mods yet, jsut stronger steering servo, some steering upgrades, dual disc brakes which work for garbage right now and that's about it.  Oh I did upgrade the diffs and went with an Airtronics controller.
Still working on some steering issues, can't seem to turn that well and need to tune it as it bogs when it hits second.
