I got the org. but rebuild, 904 trans, proberbly the converter to, from the 318 cui. but now a 340 Cui in front of it..
NO posi rear-end, probl. 2.73 - 3.23..

When I brake a little hard, engine stalls..???

Try to smoke some tires ??? - NO WAY, I think it's because the stallspeed is very low, but when it shift to 2. gear, it makes a little spinn, so the 340 Cui. must be running strong, and feels like it when RPM comes on..

What is org. the stall difference on converters for 318 and 340..???

Could it be the stallspeed making both my problems..???

Around 1600 RPM for a 318,alittle higher for a 340.
Should not kill the engine,I think you have other problems there.

The original stall speed for a 340 should be in the 1800-2200 rpm range , , if the converter is internally damaged it may not be stalling properly or even unlocking as you brake so yes it could be causing both problems , how Much RPM is lost when you pull into into drive at idle ?
you could also have a problem with the brake booster leaking causing the engine to stall with a vacuum drop

Just alittle more info, when converters go bad the stall usually goes up, not down. Unless it is a lock up converter which you should not have.

usually true but I have seen them go the other way to a lock up way too early lock up style or not
