fuel pressure drop off
« on: September 08, 2007 - 06:57:40 PM »
440, 6pk, (all newly built), alluminum heads, headers, 10;1 compression.  I just installed new fuel pump, pressure gauge. Since new fuel pump, pressure went from 1 lb, to 4 lbs, but drops to "0" after idling for about 15 min.  I added fuel treatment, no help.  any idea's B4 I stick this car in a barn!!! Just kidding.

Couple of things to check...the fuel pump push rod could be worn or there is a problem with the fuel line somewhere between the tank and the pump (squashed/plugged)

recently a member here was having issues & it turned out the rubber supply hose to his pump was collapsing from the suction

Was the fuel pump pushrod replaced when the engine was rebuilt ?
 I would check that first

...If none of the above, is the fuel filter clogged, or maybe there is a loose connection/cracked rubber hose, letting air into the line?

Thanks for the input.  I took my HD up to the local Sat night car meet (1st time there).  Probably 50+ cars, only 2 mopars :stomp:, 73 duster, and an old Satellite.

Juices flowing :cooldancing:, I decided to give it a shot driving up (20 miles or so)  Again I did just put the fuel treatment in (sea Foam) but haven't had the confidence to drive do to the flat bed bringing me home the last 2 times.

I made it up, and back w/ out any problems w/ shutting down : :clapping: :woo:

I'm going to check the fuel pressure issue, after this tank runs out and I put clean gas in.  Hopefully things were gummed up from sitting.

Thanks Again, I
