Satin paint on interior of 71 cuda?
« on: May 18, 2007 - 02:35:23 PM »
My 71 cuda is ready to paint and will get shot tomorrow.  Can anyone confirm that the interior metal was originally a satin finish?  and that the engine bay was the same finish as the exterior of the car?  thanks

On you questions, I am fairly certain you are correct on the first one, I am positive you are correct on the second one.  :2thumbs:

If you mean black for the satin on the interior yes use SEM interior paint Landau Black, part number 15016 its a dead on match. I know its for plastic and vinyle but I have used it on many metal dashes and never had a problem.

The car is a B-5 Blue (Dupont True Blue, 5251 exterior, 9833 interior), and was looking to paint the metal parts of the dash, trim around the rear window, etc, all the origional blue.  When I got the car, none of the interior metal was painted black, am I missing something?

No, a blue interior is supposed to be blue. He was just assuming that it is black because so many are done that way. Here are some charts from a '70 Challenger book that shows the colors of the different components.  They called the satin finish "suede".  I don't know offhand if Sem makes a blue that is close, but it seems to be the standard for doing the interiors.  Maybe a paint supplier can mix up the B-5 in a satin, but having it in a spray can would be a lot easier. Good luck with your project.

70 and 71 interior paint codes are totally different.

You are looking for Light Blue Poly if you want the correct color.  The Ditzler number for it is 14120.  I went back and looked over the manual.  I wrote the wrong code.  The code is 14120.  While there is 2 colors of low-gloss blue.  Only the code I just posted was used in the Challenger.

At least two shages of blue were used in the interior.
