I had a 5" floor installed in my garage. Also, it is fiberglass-reinforced concrete, not just plain concrete. It has so much fiberglass in it, that before they finished it off, it looked like a giant fiberglass mat. They guaranteed it not to crack, and said that it is much stronger than regular concrete. The price wasn't very much more, so you may want to consider that if you haven't already. Mine has gone through 4 PA winters and summers now, and there have been 9 cars, parts, and some engines sitting on it all that time, and there's not a sign of a crack anyplace.
:iagree:

it may raise your cost a few more dollars per yard but worth the extra cost,,, especially if your subgrade is somewhat unstable.  Also while your spreading your gravel compact it as much as you possibly can, dont let your contractor simply spread the stone and place the concrete  with out compaction.
Heres a bit of info on fibre reinforcement

Pics tomorrow. But I ended up with 4" of #7-8 rocks , 4" of crushed rock, 6 mill plastic, 4" of fiber cement. All packed before laying the cement. Long day and my barracuda got rained on (tarp covered) for the first time since 1975. I am beat. But very happy. Now I have to move the things back in 1 by 1.  I called this evening for 2 9x10 roll up doors to be installed. Going to go get a 52" shop fan in the morning and see about some black and white checker board tiles. Still looking for the 4 post lift in an article I had. Can't find it as of yet.

I am quite sure by my wifes looks, she is glad I am easing up on buying stuff.

He he he, chrome bumper from Stevens Performance on monday, she doesn't know were driving up there yet :2thumbs:

I don't know the name of the lift I am getting as of yet. I still cant find the article with the local dealer. They were not real expensive. 1495.00 was all. and I just got in from moving as much back in the shop as I could today before it rained.  I did go buy a 48" shop fan tho. it was 235.00.  I will try to get the pics tomorrow. I was very busy today.  But , it's just a floor  And I had to re wire my 220 snap on air compressor today. Been a long day for me. Just getting around to my lunch and its 851pm. Yikes

Be careful of the cheap 4-post lifts Al. Just check the internet for horror stories about them. Make sure it's a good quality lift with a good reputation. Having a car fall on you can ruin your day.
