Taillight LED Conversion?

Has anyone gotten the bulb replacements from any of these places yet? Opinions?

I saw a square type setup from www.superbrightleds.com in the "other" section. It's got the 1157 bulb end and 36-LED's on a printed circuit board. The red colored one goes for $9.95.

I would just have to see about mounting that properly in the housing.

As a comparison, the Hightechled kit for $280 has 174 LED's per side though. (But even 8 kits for $9.95 is still only $80 - you save $200 for the hassle of finding a mounting solution)

I bought and installed Hitech LED for my '72 Challenger. It looked allright, and i'm very pleased with the brake light.







Just for looks, maybe i should do something to light up the whole lens...?


After i had installed this, and driven around a bit during the day, i noticed that the left side LED-panel did'nt work.
I've tested it directly on the battery, does'nt work, and i have 13.3 volts DC on the panel itself.
So i've uninstalled the kit, and been mailing with Hitech LED a little.
So far, we have established that it really does'nt work (by filming what i do when i test it, see video below), and i think this problem will be solved without any hassle, as the Hitech LED guys have been very eager to find out about this problem.



Only a very dim shine in the LED's.
But once i have two working LED-panels, they're going straight in again!
I really appreciate the highly visible rear lights.

That's strange that the LED panels are squares. On my 71 Cuda, the Hitech LED panels are polygon shaped which fill the entire lens. I don't know why they don't do them that way for the Challengers?

In all honesty I didn't care for it much and didn't bother to pursue adding additional lights for the pattern I was going for.  I may get back to it next winter going more fo rthe full look, but I think it doesn't look right with the 3-4 horizontal lines unless it is a 70-1 cuda.  The 70-1 challenger doesn't look that bad either but for some reason I just don't like the lines.

I did come up with a board that I could use for a more random placement but like I said it won't be until the winter until I try it again. My new plan will be to split the lights using the inner light as a taillight and the outer as a tail/stop/turn.  Haven't seen that done and will incorporate that into my design.  The hardest part is modding the taillight bulb socket if you don't want to hack the harness up (or buy a premade bulb and mod it).
