« on: June 04, 2007 - 08:08:07 PM »

I have a original 3 wire alternator I have the one big screw terminal hooked to the battery But where do the other two little one's go?? voltage regulator?? Im not sure im lost I hooked up one to the regulator and it made a buzzing noise along with some smoke... and renderd the regulator useless... anybody know how this goes??

thanks

I don't have my manual right now, but I believe both of the wires from the field of the alternator return to the voltage regulator.

you need a 12v feed to 1 field terminal & 12v to the reg , the second field wire goes back to the reg & grounds through the reg so the reg has to be properly grounded to the firewall

Sounds like you got it - that's good.  There are wiring diagrams on this site if you use the search feature - I found 'em for my 73.  I just got done dealing with this same thing.  One of the field wires actually goes to a pretty big splice that then runs to a few different circuits, one being back to the voltage regulator.
