Do you have a Gold '72 'Cuda with a sunroof?
« on: April 18, 2007 - 08:22:49 PM »
Alright, here it is:  My last desperate attempt...

In 1973, my father bought a leftover '72 'Cuda.  It was Gold.

Sometime after purchasing it, he had a sunroof installed.  Nothing motorized of course, just the three-clip style that can vent or be removed.

In the mid '90's I became the primary driver for the vehicle.  In 1998 he sold the 'Cuda during a yard sale.  I won't mention the sale price for fear that I myself might be banished from this site simply for being related to the crazy man.

In 2003, while attending an automotive tech school in Blairsville, PA, I began tracking down my dad's old car.  I acquired info on the last owner in the State of GA where we lived, which was a muscle car "dealership."  I called them, and after the most confusing half-hour conversation of my life, learned that the 'Cuda had been sold to a man in Maryland.  I lost track of it there.

It was a 1972 with a 340, console-shift automatic.  It was Gold with a beige interior.  The last time I saw it, the body was covered with primer-gray spots where my father repaired rust holes with fiberglass (like I said, don't hold me in contempt here, okay?)  He had built solid louvers behind the rear wheels to reduce drag and to look cool...  and because the metal had rusted out of the wheel wells.  Carpet was intact everywhere except the driver's floor.  My dad added a wooden bezel around the dash gauges and such (actually always thought that was kinda cool lookin',) and the dash pad had been covered with a brown leather material.  Oh and the center console lid was busted off... ...you're welcome.  :)

The thing wasn't in great shape, actually in pretty bad shape.  The body of the car had literally been bent upwards in the middle when dad towed a trailer from California to Maryland in the late 70's.  I was along for that ride, in the back seat, an infant younger than a year old.

I want to know where the car went.  Not necessarily to repurchase it, as was my original intent, but just to know where it ended up.  It was the first car I rode in, the only car I rode across the country in, the first car I ever drove, the first car I ever got caught speeding in, the first car I ran out of gas in, first car I spun out, first car I had involved in a (minor) accident...

I won't post the VIN as it could be encroaching on privacy, but I still have it.  If anyone might have any idea where that car ended up, I'd really love to know.  And of course if they do want to sell it, well I'll probably always be interested.

Thanks.

P.S.  Love ya pops.

Good luck with your hunt.  It sounds like this car means a lot to you and I hope you find her - nothing like your first "love."

73Barracuda,
Good luck finding your Cuda.  A while back I saw an ad somewhere for a 72-74 Cuda and it had a sunroof in it.  I can't remember where I saw it but I will look back at some of the classified ads that I have looked at and see if I can find it.  It was a few weeks ago when I saw it.  I remember thinking that is cool a sunroof car.  Years ago I had an original 73 Dodge Dart that had a factory manual sunroof in it.  I always liked that car.  Hope you find it.

Parents will do that sometimes.
I remember when my buddy with the '73 340'CUDA went racing so he removed the backseat and console (to save weight  :grinno: hey, we were young) and put them in the tool shed. A couple of months go by and he's putting the car back together but low and behold, empty tool shed  :swear:

His Dad had been on a cleaning tear and threw the interior stuff away  :banghead:
