Carpet ?
« on: May 30, 2007 - 11:51:34 AM »
My 70 Challenger front carpet doesn't go all the way up the firewall leaving 6" or so of the fire wall exposed.  Is this correct or did someone cut it too short?  Looks kinda goofy but you never know what ma mopar did back then.  Don't want to order new ones and find the same thing.  By the way - it's a vert if that makes a difference.
Thanks

Most of carpet that I can remember stops about where the steering column goes thru the firewall. If you look you can usually see the firewall.

Thanks Mopar73340.  How about on the passenger side?  I can see 5" of the firewall under the heater box.  Just doesn't look right.

I put a new ACC carpet in my vert this past spring and there's no firewall showing on the passenger side and about 2 inches just above the gas pedal bracket, where I had to cut it out(guess the pedal could have been removed). Anyway maybe I installed it wrong because the rubber floor mat section isn't flat and I'm not sure if it's suppose to be or if it does angle up a bit. Like you, I don't care to see the firewall showing. That's just my 2 cents worth.

Most carpet sets are for Cuda/Challenger. The Challenger has 2" more inside leg room (the longer wheel base), and the carpet comes up short. High end sets will have 2 part numbers, one for Cuda's, one for Challengers.

WHen fitted correctly the carpet shoul tuck under the bottom lip of the heater box & the pedal pad sghould be under the pedals , the difference in floor length is taken up at the overlap between the front & rear carpet section under the front seats

Thanks guys.  Now I know that someone was trying to save money on the ones in my car.  I'll order a set from ACC.
