71 Cuda Vinyl Top
« on: September 17, 2007 - 12:12:01 PM »
 ???

I got some feedback from Super Blue 72 (thanks!) regarding a vinyl top on my 71 Cuda.  The Fender tag and whats left of the build sheet does not have any indication that the car came from the "factory" with a vinyl top.  Hence no "V" code.  There is evidence though, that one had installed on the car in the past.  there are drilled holes that have been filled in the rear deck and vinyl top material below window and drip rail trim.  It is a B5 blue car and the top whas white.  I am trying to track down the pervious owners to see if they have any information

Does any one know if the dealers installed tops after delivery?

Back then dealers were a little more willing to make add-ons to please people, than they are now. It wouldn't surprise me if the vinyl top got put on later, but there would be no way to prove that unless you have the receipt.

Any evidence of studs being ground off...most of the moulding clips are held on by studs. May be different for different years but my 73Challey has only 4 holes & about 12 studs.

I bet if it was dealer installed, the holes will not line up like a factory job. If you can find one, take some measurements off a factory vinyl top cuda, and compare them.

I've seen a couple 'Cuda's on the internet that were ordered with with roof's that were factory painted a different color than the body.  I believe the vinyl top moldings were also installed in these cases.  Could your car be one of these rare gems?  Your fender tag would tell the story...

2TAGS is correct, check your fender-tag for the code 'V02' on the top row, that would indicate two-tone paint.  What is the code for the roof, GB5 or if you see white maybe GW1?

He said    "vinyl top material below window and drip rail trim" so i dont think the 2 tone paint is the case.
