Small block valve train alignment issue.
« on: May 28, 2007 - 03:21:40 PM »
I have stock 915 heads with Crane ductile iron adjustable rockers and while assembling things noticed that some of the rocker tips don`t align in the center of the valve tip.The rockers are held out against the stock spacers using springs in between them and I`m wondering if they could be more centered using spacers instead of the springs.I`ve been running them this way  for years but am I doing any damage or is it no big deal? Are there spacers available or do I need to custom make them?I noticed a pic of the stock 273 setup and they use spacers.   :1zhelp:

Can you take a picture? Maybe the spacers got mixed up if you had the rockers off the shafts?

I`m charging the camera batteries and i`ll get a pic up as soon as I can. There are no spacers provided with the Crane set, just springs to hold them out against the factory hold downs.

I made custom spacers from aluminum.Trouble is after a while the soft metal wore. Recently installed valve spring shims to compensate w/0.875 ID. Use a hardened material if you go the positive spacer route.

I`m ordering a selection of spacers from Harland Sharp and will custom grind them to the sizes I need for alignment.   :2thumbs:
