Didn't mean to be fesicious NZ. Sorry. I just don't care about other peoples opinions when it comes to what style I want to build for. It is when things turn technical that I like to get in to opinions and not so much on style. You probably feel the same way but for some reason may need a little justification from others if you go the route of G because let's face it, Moparites generally don't lean that way. I am glad to see the G culture is winning alot of Mopar gearheads over though.

For those like 360cuda, they can go kiss a duck because it seems as though he has a special animosity toward aftermarket suspension and not just for the reason he states, the frame hangng too low/ MII spindles. If he is not into that stuff AND DIDN'T loath it then he would probably not give two poops if someone wanted to go that route. He does.

This is what you get when you ask for opinions. Jealous people, purists, racers, all kinds that try to inject thier style into your build. Don't follow the heard mentality and don't be one of the 'sheep'le but one of the people who build the ride that they have in thier minds eye.

Apology accepted. Pete (360Cuda) means well, I think you read into his post wrong? :dunno:

Anyhow, I'm all for opinions and I know no matter what I build it won't please everyone and if it didn't please anyone other than me, I could honestly careless. When it's me and the highway, whose looking? ;) All I was wanting to know is what people preferred for their builds, not what they like to see others build.

I'm going the stock route, no doubt, big 15" cop rims with 275/s giving it the 28" high look just appeals more to me and from any angle looks muscle without any second thoughts. I also like G-Machines as well, I'd have both if the money tree wasn't already rooted.

I voted stock but I can appreciate the G-Machine look.  I guess I'm kind of on the fence in that taking an ordinary classic & jazzing it up is good by me. Hacking it up to the point it could never be close to original again, especially the rare models, goes against my grain. If you were starting with a basket case I'd say do whatever....

When I think of custom, I think of a vehicle that has been heavily modified in a way that it cannot easily be returned to stock. Like the Cuda on here that is being channeled or the extensive floor pan mods that were performed on the Sick Fish. These are true customs. Most modified drag cars also fall ito this catagory with back half suspension systems and modified interior tin work.

Everything else is a just a bolt on to a stock platform, imo. Even the XV stage 2 stuff, which requires minor cutting and welding, is not radical surgury and can be reversed. To call a car custom because it has a billet alternator bracket or non original wheel and tires sizes, as is apt to happen in big show judging, is kind of a cop out to me. It is still the original platform all those niceties are hanging from.

In that frame of reference, I'd say stock because a true custom entails considerable modifications which most aren't inclined to tackle.

The G-machine look is also kind of subjective to me as well. Much like Pro Street became a charicature, some have taken the G Machine look to a level of silliness. I'm all for big tires and lowered stances, but 20-22 inch rims with air ride suspension just so you can park the car on the ground seems silly. It's kinda like triple D cups on a 5" tall women. It is intersting enough to look at once or twice, but I wouldn't want to live with it day in and day out.

I am building what people would call a G-machine and I whole heartedly agree w/ HP2. My cars suspension can be replaced back to stock in a day although it would all need to be refurbished.
I was entertaining the idea of putting 18's on the back to replace the 17's but I feel that 17 is the limit for usefulness. My brake package requires 16'' or larger so I chose 17 for the tire availability and look (I must admit).
18's are just too big for me and I feel some wheel/tire packages are a little garrish and do get into the realm of outlandish, like Pro-street that people are likening Pro-touring to.
I new since I was a youngin' that I wanted to get into road racing or auto-X and this will be the car to take me there.
I am doing what I like and would suggest NZ do the same, as he has said he is building the car like he wants.
Do what ya like and be happy.

I also agree with HP2, a custom is much more than bolt on parts. Mustang guys uses the term "restomod", probably a bether name for what it acutally is. I also agree on the part with people building a car with G-Machine looks.. An air bagged car with 22" is not a G-Machine. I prefer the name Pro-Touring, and to me there is no such thing as a "Pro-Touring-look". People who say they build that does not have a clue. Pro-Touring is about function over form and the big wheels came along to house big brakes, and performance rubber. Not for the bling factor. The stance also, it's there to hug the road, and it's made of trick suspention work, and not by airbags just to look cool.  :2cents:

Just the same way as alot of 10" tire drag cars can take down a tubbed to the max "Pro-streeter" , alot of the more dedicated G-machine enthusiasts stay away from the 19 and up size wheels and the ones in the know don't use anything above 17".
While I think there is a place in the hobby for all of the genre's, I do think a Kustom or Kustom G-machine and a G-machine are as far apart as stock and G-machine.

Depends.

318 car?  Pro-tour it (or G-machine, whatever).  Can't really stand 100% OEM looking clones.

Factory six-pack car?  AAR or T/A?  Keep it stock looking.  As long as the STANCE is correct.  I HATE 14" wheels/tires w/the rear arse dragging.

Not a fan of the 19-22" wheels either.  I mean come on, heavy big wheels is all for looks and that's it.  14" rotors on 18" wheels are about as big as you will ever need.
