Wiring Harness - Standard/Rallye
« on: June 02, 2007 - 05:38:56 PM »
Hi,

I have a 70 Gran Coupe with standard gauges and am converting over to rallye.  I bought a set of 70 rallye gauges, but does it matter which rallye harness I get.  70-71 or 72-74.  Also does this mean I will lose the plug in capability for my overhead console or is there a specific Gran Coupe rallye harness.  Or in the end should I be retaining the original harness and figure out a way to modify for the rallye guages (just for the clock and tach?).

Appreciate any help.  I'm confused.

Thanks.

Jerry

Each year had it's own unique dash harness.  Overhead consoles harnesses are separate from the dash harness.

First off the gran coupe overhead harness is a plug in so you are fine there. Second 70 has a different fuse box then 71 to 74 (the horn relay is different), it is not difficult to convert the standard harness to work with rallye gauges, you have to run a wire for the tach and clock and there is a different oil pressure sender and you have to modify the wire for the oil pressure gauge from the oil pressure light. There are a few threads on here about converting the standard harness to rallye gauge harness if you need more info on the specifics to modifying the harness.

Perfect.

I will stay with the original harness and modify where required.

Appreciate it.
