Bellhousing for trade
« on: May 14, 2007 - 09:55:32 PM »
I do not know how rare this bellhousing is but I will try this post and see what reactions I get.

I have a 1965 413/426 4 spd cast iron 10-1/2" bellhousing for trade. Casting # is 2468372. For a B/C body. If anyone is doing a resto on an original car and wants this part let me know. My dilemma is that I need to bore it out to fit my OD 833 and it seems a shame to do this to a (what I believe) to be a hard to find part. This bellhousing is absolutely like brand new. The bolt holes have perfect threads and no cracks whatsoever. I want a 10-1/2" not so collectible replacement or the cash from this to buy a new one. Otherwise off to the machine shop we go.

Any takers email me offline kiwirv6@shaw.ca or phone me at (403) 234-9003 Mountain time. Neil Patrick would likely inspect this housing to verify it's condition and advise any interested parties. If I do not hear from anyone soon I will machine this one.

I have one of those too.  Is your bearing retainer hole the 4.35" one too?.   I can only use one of my 4-speed trannies with it because of that hole.    If you bore it, only go to 4.80" and  bring your bearing retainer down to  4.80" also from the 5.12 diameter. That's less hole to cut out of the bellhousing.  before you cut it, try listing it with the 62 to 65 mopar crowd. Maybe someone will trade you a later model.
Those guys are everywhere and love  62 to 65s.  Here is one of their websites that I found when searching "62 to 65 Mopars" in google.

I'm in the same boat . Talking to a big time mopar man today here is what he told me .He said just because you have the big cone dose not mean you have the big bearing . He said that they made 2 big cones 1 held the small bearing and 1 was for the big bearing . Both used the same bell housing . If your trans has a small bearing all you have to do is change the cone . If you have a big bearing you might be able to have the collar on the cone cut down depending how far in the bolts that hold it on are in .I would appreciate any feed back from anyone here who might know about any of this . :feedback:

BadJoey - I want to get my car going so I am machining the bellhousing down to 4.8" (I think, I will verify). The retainer is already machined to 4.8". My tranny is the 833OD unit which has a 5.25" retainer??. This will slow me a little but alas many more things to do anyway. I just grab painted parts off the bench and install them right now. Hopefully when all the parts are gone the car starts.
