Need casting/part number look-up help
« on: June 04, 2007 - 03:48:13 PM »
I'm trying to figure out what the side view mirrors on my 'Cuda are off of as the std rubber gaskets don't fit.  They are too wide but the length is okay.  The casting number is 3670993 if I read it right.  Anybody got books on this kind of thing?

I think you may have Bbody mirrors.  Post a measurement of hole to hole.

That was my guess.  The local "resto" shop is waiting for their new shipment of mirror gaskets so they can check out the B body gasket.

After looking at mirrors here I am sure you have Bbody mirrors.  The B measures 5 " between holes.  The E is 3&1/8 between holes.  The mirror heads are the same as 71 up "E".  I have used "B" heads on an "E" base when I had a damaged "E" mirror.

They are 5 inches between holes.  Would this be 71-74 B body then?

They are from a 73-74 B-Body.

After all this I am now told that 73-74 B body mirror gaskets are not reproduced! :dunno:

Ebody bases come up on Ebay.  I would switch mirrors or bases.

Good idea.   I'll look for E body bases.  I painted the mirrors myself so that is not an issue.

The drivers side can be a bear to switch the mirror head due to the cable.  I would go for a passenger side E base and an E drivers mirror or just get E mirrors and sell your B mirrors.
