I was wondering the same thing for my 98 Ram.  It has the factory tow package but no controller, although the fuse block has a plug-in port for the wiring.  Any brand recomendations?

Myself, I just have a cheap Draw-Tite Activator.  However, most of the guys on the diesel web boards rave about the Jordan:

Or the Tekonsha Prodigy.

The difference being that the Jordan and the Prodigy are proportional, versus mine is just controlled via the voltage slider.  I don't tow that much weight or that often though.  If I did, I would probably upgrade.

I have used the same Prodigy unit in my last two Ram trucks to pull the 24' trailer with The Beast enclosed.  Never had a seconds problems out of it.  I would highly recommend the Prodigy although it ain't cheap compaerd to some of the others...........

Years of growing up on the farm, my dad hauling stuff from million dollar race horses to CAT equipment, I have seen nothing but Tekonsha in his trucks.
I got my first Tekonsha a few years ago when I had to tow my Duster and basically my wholle apartment with my Yukon from San Diego to Mississippi. There are some cazy hills in Southeastern Cali and parts of Arizona. I would recommend Tekonsha but there are plenty of others that probably will fill the bill.

I have the Tekonsha in my truck and have had no problems with it.  It plugs right into my fuse box
