I've never seen anything like that before! I can tell you this though, the engine isn't an early hemi, it's a Ford flathead engine with an Ardun hemi head conversion. Fairly rare setup that was designed by Zora Arkus Duntov of Corvette fame.

This car is claimed to be the fastest car in memphis in the 40's. I dont know if it had this set-up or how many fast cars were in memphis in the 40's.

(Ar)kus (Dun)tov (ArDun) In case anyone didn't catch it.  My father used to race these.  If he can shed any light on it I'll let you know.  It is a great looking set up.  No matter how fast it was it was pretty exotic for the '40's.

it is 2 downdraft 1 bbls , mounted on a Y pipe through a water heated plenum
 definatly a Furd flathead engine though with Ardun heads
