New mopar engine paint
« on: June 11, 2007 - 07:43:26 PM »
I was just at my local dealership (sometimes I just go and hang out) and they had an email from Chrysler saying that they have reformulated their street and race hemi orange paints. In addition to being offered in the rattle cans, the paint is now available in quarts. I am going to order a quart of each and will let you know what I find.

I hope the paint in the quarts that you can spray is better than the rattle cans as I have never had much luck with the rattle can mopar engine paint.

Tell me about it, in my experience about 80% of the cans are junk. The same email said that the new cans are better.

I went done and ordered a quart of each the race hemi and street hemi so I could compare the new formulas, and they were both on back order with no eta, so now we play the waiting game.

Hopefully it doesn't look like orange mud as in the past. Let us know. I'd be interested in trying some myself.

Folks, you must spray the block with self etching primer first (if the block is down to bare cast) then spray with engine paint. We did my son's BB 6 years ago like this and not one tiny piece of paint missing due to heat damage etc. Use the same paint you would use for aluminium. Ask your local paint supplier.

I dont have any problems with my prep work the problems have been the spary nozzles on the cans not spraying and the color looking like crap because the formula they have used for the color is way off. This new stuff is suppose to be a better formula and even though they say that the new cans are better I am not going to take that chance, and besides 14 dollars a quart is a lot better than 11 dollars a can.
