Axle help
« on: June 16, 2007 - 04:12:11 PM »
Need some verfication of measurements here if anyone can help please.

I have modified a Ford truck 3/4 ton Dana 60 Trac-Loc down to Challenger specs with the Mopar flanges, spring hangers etc to fit my Chally. I will be using custom Moser axles once I can get the measurements to them.

Housing info:
- Flange to flange 56-1/2"
- Drivers side  to pinion center 29-3/4"
- Passener side to pinion center 26-3/4"

Axles Info:
- overall length 29-15/16"
- from spline end to bearing step 27-1/2"
- bearing inside diameter 1.575"
- spline count 30

Also can anyone verfiy that the Ford dana is 30 or 31 spline count. I have no way to see into the diff to count the splines. I want to run the stock bearings and adjusters with the center block installed in the diff.

Thanking you all in advance

Wouldn't they be 35?  :dunno:

Seems to me the early Dana 60s are 23 spline and the later ones are 35 but I'm using my memory so  :clueless:

360 - I pulled an axle from an early to mid 80's 3/4 ton Ford (couldn't find a 73model) the other day at the same wrecker and it had a 30 spline count So you see the confusion. Maybe it was not a Dana but it sure looked like one. Mine is out of a 73. CP and I took the diff out, when I pulled the axles I just tossed them into the truck not thinking about the spline count. I will most likely pull the carrier this weekend and do the count. Word is that the diff goes straight back in with no realignment needed for a Dana if you don't move shims around etc.

But if anyone can verify the other measurements for me please.

I went on some 4 wheel drive forums and they say you have the 30 spline because the 35 spline is rare except in aftermarket.
