727 shifting options

    727 shifting options

    Hi there, can I drive only using slap stik shifter in D position e.g in heavy traffic? I tried and it´s working fine to me but is it recommended to start driving always using slap stik shifter first in 1 then 2 and finally D?

    You can drive it however you want to ."Slapstick mode" is really only for you want to bang gears in a racing situation.
    (or slap the stick forward)  :burnout:  :bigsmile:

    The only way I drive my Cuda with a 727 is to select each gear individually. It's like shifting without a clutch. I also later installed a reverse manual valve body.

    72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

    1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

    I think I know what you are asking. I was a Newbie to the slap-stick once too.  :grinyes: Driving in "D" is fine for most everyone. The slap-stick thing just comes into play if you want to start out in first, and slap the shifter up to the proceding gears. In other words, when you want to get on it, and get harder shifts.

    LOL! Nope you're fine. I have never seen a post quite like this. It's just like any automatic car new or old, [D] or Drive is the best place for them in terms of working as designed. I only put my slap-stik into 2nd coming down hills or to engine brake. I only put it in first on the odd occasion when I want a little fun from the mark. I don't really sit there going up/down changing gears, I let the car do the shifting. If I wanted to do that, I'll drive my manual.
