News from the bead blaster

    Well, the guy who does the bead blasting called today. Apparently the car is not as straight as we had thought. The hood shows fire damage and rust on the underside, the roof has pinholes, the quarters "need work" and the rear deck panel also needs attention. The car has also been hit right behind the driver side door. He said he's seen worse, and this is still a very solid car to restore, but we haven't seen it yet, so I can't provide a first-hand opinion. Still, this is disappointing as we had thought it was in relatively good condition. Oh well, until we see it we won't know what the plan is.

Sorry about the bad news, but it soulds like most of the other Cuda's or Challengers.  They tend to rot in the same places.

Hey - Don't get discouraged.  When we media blasted my Challenger, we found a lot of ugly spots.  Mine had primer covering a lot of dents and rust pinholes.

Your roof pinholes can probably be welded up, and the other things you mentioned are available as re-pops (if yours are too damaged to use).  A word of advice (and don't take offense if you already know this)...Take a bunch of measurements under the car, and make sure it is straight, before you start any bodywork.  I have seen people spend a lot of time/money in bodywork, only to have things not line up, because of previous crash damage.

I think you always find more than you expected after you blast your car . . but then you really know what you're working with as blasting it shows everything!
