NOS 71 Cuda gilled fender driver side
« on: June 19, 2007 - 09:41:26 AM »
I am selling my MINT NOS 71 Cuda gilled driver side fender.  After searching in vain for a mint passenger side fender to go with it on my Cuda project, I lucked out and just purchased a mint matching OEM pair so I no longer need this.  I figure I'll give C-C.com members the first crack at it before it goes on e-bay.  It's not cheap but I'll let it go for what I paid, this is the cleanest most perfect NOS fender you will probably ever see in your life no b/s!  I paid through the nose for this but I am only searching for the best for my car and if you think your car deserves the best than this is it.
The price is $4000 (please don't laugh) but this is what I paid and if you have been looking, then you know this is the going rate for sh*ttier pieces (if you can find them).  Please PM me with any questions.  Thanks! Greg.

I think what he means, if I am reading all this right. New old stock is just that. Untoched original stuff, your looks like it had some kind of prep work done to it.

I know what you mean about trying to find a perfect 71 fender.  Figures you could never find a good pass side. They usually go first

Thank you for the input Moparal, but no prep work at all, only a light coat to protect against surface rust. BTW I invite anyone to inspect it, it's in Dearborn Heights, MI.

I'm not laughing.  In 1995 I bought an AAR project car.  It came with NOS rear quarters and wheelhouses.  I decided it was cheaper to buy a done car than it was to restore the one I had, so I sold the car and parts separately in 1999 - before the big boom.  I sold the quarters for $3500.  The guys that bought it called me from Iowa saying they were coming to pick it up.  Less than 24 hours later, four guys in a minivan with Iowa plates pull up to my house.  That wouldn't be a big deal, except for one thing - I LIVE IN ARIZONA.  They hung up the phone and immediately drove straight through without stopping for anything but gas.  They didn't want to risk someone else getting the parts before they did.  Conisdering that was 8 years ago when prices were about 1/3 what they are now, and 71 gilled fenders are a lot rarer than quarters that work on any 70-71 Barracuda/Cuda, $4K isn't a stretch.

:iagree:  My challenger had an nos ds fender on it, only a light coat of paint, but the fact is, its no longer nos.  Looks like a nice original, but if you want to eb technical, once its worked on, no longer nos.

If you're restoring a six pack car, that can bring $200k, or a hemi car, that can bring $600k, or 'vert that will bring at least $150k, then a $4k fender is not that big a deal.

But if you're cloning, or restoring a 340 or 383 car, fix what you got, stamp some Barracuda fenders, or wait for Goodmark.

I agree that if it's an expensive #'s car resto.. than the fender will grab 3500-4k IMO. ONly prob is the NOS fender may not work as well as another OEM fender. The production line routinely fitted different fenders to get the perfect fit. So, NOS may not always be the best route for a car.. when a better fitted OEM may actuallt be better. IMO

Wow, this is the first time I have ever heard that the factory used different fenders. Did they have time to swap fenders around? different stampings? I was under the assumption that the replacement fenders were just left over stampings.
