Wiring Q's
« on: July 23, 2007 - 03:29:42 AM »
Oh mighty and wise Lords of E-bodies, bless me with knowledge!!

I bought another dash assembly, and I know it is not a '70, but came with gauges and was complete and in much better shape, now that I'm going through the wiring I've got a few questions.  If someone can tell me an easy way to identify the year, maybe I can just get a diagram, but I figured I'd ask the gurus first.

First question:

The old buzzer on my '70 wiring had a three spot connector with blue, red and pair of yellow wires, This one has a flat two terminal one with a red wire going in one end and a blue wire and black wire with a yellow tracer on the other side.  What does this go to?  Did the buzzer physically change year to year?

Second question:

What is there metal canister dealy-o, and where does the other yellow lead go to?  The other yellow wire goes up to the dash lights.

Number three:

Where do the black plug and grey wire with a loop go?  I figured the grey loop is an auxilary ground, and the black one to the e-brake light, but I wanted to clarify before I shorted anything.

Number four:

Where's this six port plug going?  It's only got five wires, so I figure it's either to rear speakers, or something with the seatbelt safety stuff.

Number five:

Where's this three port plug going?  Light green wire, black with tracer, and dark green.

Thanks guys, I'm dying to get this wiring all figured out so I can get it back in the car, and get the electrical sytem working.

I'm messing with my wiring right now also. The canister times out the courtesy light in my dashboard that comes on when I open the door. the light is connected to that yello wire u mentioned that runs up into the dash. That light is a pain cuz its grounded by the mounting screw into the metal bezel, if the mount is dirty it wont work. The only other one I recognized was the 5wire grey harness. Its located behind the driver side kick panel and runs through the driver side under the sill plate. All my rear lights run off that harness. Hope this helps

Question/Number 2. The other yellow wire goes to your ignition switch lamp, if you have one. There sould be a single yellow wire coming down your steering column if you do.

Question Number5. Heater blower switch.

I did a search a few days ago about the buzzer. They do change from year to year, someone posted the breakdown of the differences.....

#1- LOOKS LIKE THE SEAT BELT BUZZER- can't find the proper colors in my wiring diagrams

#3- GREY TO GROUND- seat belt wiring, BLACK TO PARKING SW.

#4- yes- to seat switches and belts

#5- heater switch

this harness is out of a 74- seat belt interlock unit- pain in the butt!!!!!!!!!! there should be also a box with a long flat connector for the seat belt control!!!!!
