I'm a bit flustered with this 383 right now.... :stomp: It want start for me, sure I know, I'm gonna rebuild the motor and all that stuff, but I'd like to know what I'm starting with atleast..... But It's a basic straight forward setup being points. I got a firing coil, and there's spark going to the plugs..... Well, at least it hit me a couple of times.... ::) Anyhow, fuel, sort of.... I'm having to poor gas straight down the carb.... :eek7:  Why? Well, the fuel lines off the pump are 1/4", but the fuel line on the carb is 3/8" so........ BAH, HUM BUG. :swear: Anyway, pooring it down the carb, I should see atleast some life out of it, but.... :walkaway: The motor is turning over fine. Just nothing else going on..... The only thing I can figure is, the lifters must have leaked down, and need to pump up again, but heck, as much as I've turned it over, I figured they would've pumped up by now, so... :clueless: BTW, the wiring harness that's on the firewall, has a connection for a control box.... HEHEHE.

It only requires a few things to make an engine run; air, fuel, ignition, and compression, in the right amounts and at the right times. Air is a given usually. If the carb is squirting gas, you have fuel. You have ignition, but it may not be at the right time. You haven't mentioned anything about compression.

Right now I don't have a "working" compression gauge.. :-\.. I've been spinning the motor over a lot, thinking maybe the lifters have just bled down.... Here yesterday it started trying to kick over, like maybe the lifters are just taking a while to pump back up? Anyway, I finaly got my three nights off now, so I have some more time to mess around with it. :bricks1:

lifters will not bleed down enough to not open the valves , the valves still open & the engine will start

I started wondering about that after I said it :bricks1:..... Anyway, I'm starting to wonder if maybe the rings are sealing well enough for it to build enough compression to start.... It tried to fire up, but never started, it kicked over a few times, but that's about it.... :violin: Anyhow, I finaly got some  :picture: for yall to check out.... By the way, check out that intake that's on there, and tell me what it might be? Other than Edelbrock, because that's just a little bit obvious, lol. As for the motor, I'm gonna go ahead change the plugs and wires in it, everything distributor wise is good to go, and I'm gonna go ahead and get an MSD Blaster 2 coil. In the mean time, I may pour something (like transmission fluid) down in the cylinders just in case the rings are stuck to the pistons....

I would go ahead and get a "working" compression gauge and check compression.

Why not just use rubber fuel line?
