727 Automatic Shifter Options
« on: June 25, 2007 - 03:05:59 PM »
Hey Folks,

What automatic shifters do ya'll recommend for the 727 and why?

I've heard great things about the cheetah, but gosh is it ugly.  Does anyone know if the handle unscrews and allows something nicer to be installed?  The other great thing I understand about the cheetah is that it has a rear exit cable.  The rear exit cable keeps your shifter cable out of the headers and makes it easier to route, etc...

What are other shifters have the desired rear exit cable?  Any of the Hurst ones?  I'd enjoy hearing anyone's experience with hurst or cheetah shifters.  Also, anyone's pictures of getting one fabricated to work with the stock auto console in a 70 cuda.

Thank you!

In my race car, I used a Hurst Quarter stick with a short front exiting 3' cable. Different cable lengths will get you away from the headers.   That shifter was ugly for a restored car. It's business was lightweight and racing, so it didn't belong on a console.   In the past, I've seen some very nice looking Hurst Quicksilver  shifters mounted to consoles that looked like they belonged there.  You might want to look at those.

I was always a big fan of the Hurst Quick silver shifters. They can be used in either straight configuration or reverse shift pattern for modified tranny's. I always like the ratchet action and the way they look.  :2thumbs:

The factory Slap Stick would be my choice , it out performs the cable type & is stupid simple
